To All the Movies I’ve Loved Before

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before is a drama, romance that was released on August 17, 2018, by Netflix. This movie is about Lara Jean Covey and how she turned her whole life upside down from a small accident. Her sister sent all of her past loves love letter that she had written for her eyes only. In these love letters, she went on to say how she honestly felt about each of them, basically anything she was afraid to tell them face to face. From these love letters, she stirred up many other people’s lives.

At the beginning of the movie, she goes on to explain how she felt about each of the boys and how she got those feelings. There are a total of five letter for five different guys, Kenny from camp, Peter from 7th grade, Lucas from homecoming, John Ambrose from Model UN, and Josh, her neighbor. She only writes a letter whenever she has an intense crush for a guy to a point where she doesn’t know what else to do. Every time she gets lonely or upset, she would pull out her letters and read them to make herself feel better. Out of nowhere all of her past crushes receives her love letters turning her life into chaos. First peter from 7th grade who quickly denied her. Then Lucas from homecoming who had just came out of the closet for being gay. Then Kenny from camp never got to get his letter as she didn’t have his address. Josh never really got a chance to talk to her as she immediately got into a fake relationship with Peter to avoid all of her past crushes. This phony relationship becomes the spawn of their newly found love for each other.

In general, I liked this movie as I could relate to how Lara Jean Covey felt all throughout the film. She doesn’t show her emotions towards others as she is scared to lose another person in her life. I can relate to this as I lost my father at a very young age and that was a rough patch in my life. His death caused me to go into depression, and I didn’t want to make any new friends like her in the movie. At the end of the film, she starts to turn her life around by getting into a real relationship with Peter like what I’ve done with my life by starting to make new friends in High School. I would recommend this movie to anyone looking for a charismatic romantic movie on Netflix.
