Homecoming is right around the corner, and many of Wheeler’s students are anticipating the event! People have already decided on dress, dates, or friends to attend. But the most important thing we’re wondering is, what’s for dinner? Some people may choose to eat before the dance, but others love a late-night hangout for food after the dance! There are a few restaurants in the area that might satisfy any post-Homecoming cravings. Of course, when determining these spots, we must consider the food, late-night service, and safety criteria. However, there are a few options that may meet these criteria for students to enjoy.

Everyone loves a late-night dessert! Krispy Kreme on Cobb Parkway offers dine-in doughnuts until 9:30 pm with a 24-hour drive-through. Many students love Krispy Kreme because of the consistently light and airy doughnuts, regardless of the time. Krispy Kreme has a variety of doughnut flavors, including seasonal favorites. However, most people cannot resist Krispy Kreme’s original glazed doughnuts. Maryam Ahmed (11) agrees, saying, “They have good glazed doughnuts.” In addition to the food and late-night quality, many students think this is a safe space for a post-Homecoming snack. Most students would go through the drive-through and eat their doughnuts in the compact parking lot.

If students want a variety of savory options, Del Taco might be an option for students. The location on Cobb Parkway is open until 3 am so that the restaurant will be available for a post-Homecoming meal! They offer classic Tex-Mex meals, including vegan options. Many students claim Del Taco as the better Taco Bell. Martin Ikeme (12) agrees, saying, “their burritos are pretty good; every other burrito I ever had wasn’t that good.” In addition to overall enjoyable food and service, students say they will go to Del Taco after 10 pm with friends. Leiana Lucy (12) has been to Del Taco after 10 pm, and she says, “it was lit, a movie, party!” All in all, Del Taco is a considerable choice when deciding on a post-Homecoming meal.

When looking for fatty, crunchy American classics, Popeye’s is an excellent option! Popeye’s serves many southern staples such as fried chicken, fries, biscuits, and much more. They serve these meals hot and fast until midnight most days of the week. While they serve lots of menu items, chicken sandwiches and fries are a favorite among Wheeler students. Hawthorne Brown (11) agrees by explaining, “they have the really good crispy chicken sandwiches.” Jayla Davis (12) also had good food from Popeye’s, and she believes “their chicken and fries are good.” In addition to the variety of fast, tasty meals, many Wheeler students would eat and hang out here after 10 pm. A well-lit plaza and street surround the space to give teens a safe dining experience.

If you are interested in having breakfast after Homecoming, IHOP may be the perfect place. IHOP on Cobb Parkway serves pancakes, omelets, and more for 24 hours! Students at Wheeler love the variety and quality of pancakes at IHOP. Many agree that IHOP beats Waffle House for a late-night breakfast. Jameela Hillary (12) agrees, stating, “I like the fact that you can make your own pancakes however you want them to; they just taste good.” However, IHOP doesn’t just satisfy students’ breakfast cravings, IHOP also offers a safe dining experience for Wheeler’s students. IHOP on Cobb Parkway is located on a well-lit street near the Big Chicken. These assuring safety conditions, good food, and service will satisfy Wheeler students looking for a post-Homecoming meal.

Finally, Cookout offers plenty of barbecue staples to high schoolers after Homecoming. Cookout serves hamburgers, quesadillas, milkshakes, and more until 3 am out of their window. Many of Wheeler’s students love the variety and quality of food items. “They have really good milkshakes and pretty good burgers,” explains Nathaniel Leonhardt (12). Moreover, Cookout offers combo trays with substantial portions for an average of $5 to suffice any high school student’s budget. Not only do students appreciate the food and service here, but also the safety offered when dining at Cookout. Many students would go to the restaurant with friends at night. David Thompson (11) says he would “absolutely” go to Cookout after 10 pm with friends. David and many other Wheeler students agree that Cookout is an excellent post-Homecoming option.
