Cat’s Meow: Mrs. Todoric

When discussing what truly makes a good teacher, one must consider teaching style, supportiveness, discipline, and kindness. Mrs. Delja Todoric checks all of the above. After multiple years teaching literature and language classes at Wheeler, Mrs. Todoric has become a well-respected, engaging educator.
The access to “discussion, literature, and young minds” spurred Mrs. Todoric to become a teacher. She never wants to grow old, and the opinions of her students help her avoid getting “stuck in [her] own world.” At first, Mrs. Todoric shared, she did not enjoy teaching rhetoric. Still, after a graduate student emailed her voicing that “because of [her] class, I was truly able to write persuasive papers,” her perspective changed. This real-life application of the content she teaches was a “really big deal” for Mrs. Todoric, and it gave her a new appreciation for rhetoric and teaching in general.
Although her favorite thing about being a teacher is “harassing children every day,” Mrs. Todoric’s students, such as junior Ewruaba Buckle, express their appreciation for her. “She has fostered my learning and growth as a writer,” Buckle states. She continues discussing that her favorite thing about Mrs. Todoric as a person is that “she’s Serbian.” As a teacher, “she’s very interactive; she’s always asking questions to provoke discussion.” Additionally, junior Annika Mehta says, “I think she’s very good at helping [students] apply, and my favorite thing about her is her sense of humor.”
Furthermore, Lakshmi Valliyapan considered her work ethic “drastically improved due to Mrs. Todoric’s analogies.” For example, whenever Lakshmi does not turn in her work on time, Mrs. Todoric responds with, “what if I didn’t turn your college essay in on time?” These are just a few anecdotes demonstrating her unique, humorous, and effective teaching style. Overall, Mrs. Todoric is the spitting image of a well-rounded teacher.
