Movie Review: Dune

The movie, Dune, starring famous actors such as Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya, has been widely viewed and talked about since its release on October 22, 2021. The story follows Paul Atreides, the future heir to the House of Atreides, and his fight for power over the Arrakis desert planet, which contains the valuable substance of “spice”. As of November 7th, the movie has collected around 331.1 million dollars worldwide. In Canada and United States alone, the movie gained around 41 million dollars on opening weekend, making its way as a box office hit. The movie did gain a lot of hype due to the amount of press this movie had. The director, Dane Villeneuve, created a movie that resembled Star Wars in a way. The movie definitely accomplished the goal of a futuristic sci-fi film for those who enjoy that genre. Within Wheeler, the movie received very mixed reviews. Some claimed that the movie was perfectly executed, while others said the movie was very hard to understand. One person said, “It was really complex to know what was going on.”

Regardless of the reviews, the movie was cast perfectly. Timothee Chalamet encaptured Paul very well as a boy navigating his way to duke in a world fighting for power. I believe that Rebecca Ferguson stole the show with her range of expressions and the way she developed her character. The cinematography was very well done and really enhanced the overall movie. The location of the set was exceptional, and the special effects such as the flying of space ships and powers were all very well executed. It was very easy to distinguish between who were the good and bad characters in the movie based on the costumes, and viewers can expect to be at the edge of their seats in many scenes. The movie really set the stage for the next movie, ending with the quote, “This is only the beginning.”
