Women’s History Month

Every year, March is designated as a time to recognize and honor the women who have made significant contributions to society. A time when people reflect on the contributions women have made to society throughout history. It is an opportunity to celebrate women for their achievements, as well as to raise awareness about the ongoing fight for gender equality.The United States has celebrated Women’s History Month since 1987, when Congress passed Public Law 100-9, which designated the month of March as National Women’s History Month. The law encouraged Americans to observe the month with appropriate programs and activities.

March is Women’s History Month, and no better icon to focus on during this month than Madam CJ Walker. A woman who has broken barriers and shattered stereotypes. Born Sarah Breedlove in 1867, she was the daughter of enslaved parents. She was the first African American woman to become a self-made millionaire in the United states. Walker’s business grew rapidly, and she expanded her product line to include cosmetics and other beauty products targeted towards black women. She also developed a network of agents who sold her products door-to-door, creating jobs and economic opportunities for African American women.

Madam CJ Walker is most known for her success as an entrepreneur and innovator in the beauty industry. She developed a range of products like hair straightening and cosmetic creams, aimed to help African American Woman with their hair Walker was also an Ardent supporter of racial and gender equality. She used her wealth to help and give to organizations that advocated for civil rights, women’s rights, and education opportunities for African Americans.

Walker was a pioneer for women’s business success. She was also the first to create a mass marketed hair product line. She helped educate and train her employees. Women’s History Month is an annual celebration of the accomplishments of women throughout history and around the world.

KAMARI DAVIS (10) said in reponse to, “How do you celebrate women’s history month?,” “I show more attention to things that women are going through around the world and I donate to more women supporting groups.”

MACKENZIE MORRIS (10) stated, “ I feel like women’s history month is not more recognized and that it should be. I feel like not enough people know about it then they should since it’s a very important month to especially us women.”

JOSIAH IVRIN (11) stated, “ I feel as if women’s history month has impacted me by showing me things I have not learned about women’s history. It has very much open my eyes to the things women go through and how they overcome it.”

JOSIAH HEATH (10) stated, “ I celebrate women’s history month by showing more appreciation to my mother, and looking for more women’s hardships in the world going on I tried to show more attention to them by posting them, and sharing them out on social media to gain more people’s attention.”
