Captain Marvel
On March 8, 2019, the long-awaited Captain Marvel finally hit theaters with a blast! The Marvel universe takes its audience into the 1990’s to tell the story of war hero turned superhero, Carol Danvers. Played by Academy Award winner Brie Larson, she portrays the iconic female powerhouse with conviction and courage.
In this latest installment of the Marvel movies, we are introduced to Vers, a Kree soldier on the planet Hala. During one of her missions fighting the notorious Skrulls, she is captured by one of their commanders. Throughout her struggle to fight free and escape she is exposed to vivid flashbacks to what seems to be a life on earth as an air force pilot by the name of Carol Danvers. The film is packed with action, comedy, and a few plot twists here and there. The movie even includes some our favorite S.H.E.I.L.D members such as Nick Fury and Phil Coulson.
This incredible film was not only significant for millions of Marvel fans, but it was a milestone in the film industry. Released on International Women’s Day, Captain Marvel represented the strength and power all women have around the world. The first female superhero movie from the Marvel Comics, fans were impressed with the performance by Brie Larson and what this will do for films in the future. It was refreshing to see a female superhero on the big screen saving herself as well as millions of others. One notable aspect of this film is the fact that there was no love story or love interest. It was purely about Carol Danvers finding herself and realizing that she is just human. She doesn’t need her photon blasters or high-tech gadgets to get back up. This is a fantastic message for everyone
everywhere, and the audience is able to feel just as powerful after watching it!
