Movie Review: The Addams Family 2
The Addams Family 2 is a sequel to the Halloween favorite: The Addams Family. It retains the original characters, including Gomez – the father, Morticia – the mother, Wednesday – the daughter, and Pugsley – the son. Morticia and Gomez are worried about their children finally growing up. They begin to skip family dinners and spend too much ‘scream time’. This is a parallel to teenagers who distance themselves from family and begin watching television all day and getting into trouble. In a desperate attempt to bond as a family, they pack their bags and hop in an old camper along with their quirky Uncle Fester to go on one last vacation before their children reach adulthood. Along their journey they meet new funny friends and have a run-in with their iconic cousin, IT.
As interesting as the movie’s plot sounds, according to interviews and numerous reviews from credible sources, it did not hold a candle to the original. The film scored 5.3/10 stars on IMDb and a mere 30% on the Tomatometer. Asher Peterka, a senior at Wheeler, stated, “I don’t much care for The Addams Family 2. Not that I’ve seen it, but my sister saw it and said it was very bad. I usually enjoy holiday films but I’ll take her word for it.” It seems that many are dissuaded from seeing the movie after reading the negative reviews. It’s safe to say that not every sequel is as successful as their popular predecessor.
