Outer Banks Season Three
Just in time for warmer weather, season three of the hit Netflix show “Outer Banks” premiered February 23. The show follows the main character John B and his friends as they chase treasure, justice, and family. Hype has been building for the third season ever since the cliffhanger at the end of season two, and the charismatic cast has been looking forward to continuing the riveting adventure. “This season the stakes are definitely higher,” says Baani Mathur (10). “They are in South America for a lot of the season, and [the] added danger of being on international soil adds to the intensity of the chase [for the treasure.]” This plot point helps showcase the characters out of their element and facilitates new developments in their relationships. “I liked the romance. I was getting bored of the John B and Sarah relationship, I think it is tired and toxic, but I liked seeing some of the other characters fall for each other” (Alexis Allen, 12). However, some more devious fans appreciated the new villain, Carlos Singh. Singh is another big player in pursuit of treasure; hailing from the Caribbean, he is determined, powerful, and ruthless. “My favorite character was Carlos, his accent was so cool,” says Vachan Patel (12). Fans also enjoyed seeing side character Cleo becoming a member of the Pogues, the main character’s group. “Cleo was my favorite,” says junior Lydia Chernowski. “She is a really interesting character and I like her independence.” Overall, the characters are a big aspect of what makes this season great.
Further, fans also added details of their favorite plot points of the story. Vachan (12) said his was the sort of redemption arc Ward Cameron had. “I appreciated his sacrifice for Sarah because I was so tired of seeing Big John being a bad dad to John B.” Alexis (12) shared that she “appreciated the fact that a lot of the treasure hunt revolved around Denmark Tanney,” a fictional freedman who paid for slaves’ freedom in gold. “I like the light it shines on black figures, and the contribution it makes to the plot.” Baani (10) mentioned that she “liked the plot around Sarah, it really shows her maturity and change since the first season.” Vachan (12) felt that “this season was about equal to the previous ones” in terms of plot and continuing the story of the treasure hunt. So get excited about summer, and feel free to watch OBX3 on Netflix.
