In 2022, winter fashion seemed to turn to an old-school look consisting of Chunky, Lumpy sweaters, and the chunkier it was, the more fashionable it was. The Big Shoulders also returned as we saw everything from trench coats to jackets with sharp and edgy shoulders to substantial shoulder pads. Another thing that came into fashion in 2022 was double-breast tailoring. The classic tailoring came back last winter in jackets, long and short-length coats, and blazers.
Technology has also changed the fashion industry as wearable tech items such as smartwatches and Beats headphones slowly rise as pieces of an outfit. Technology has also changed the fashion game because it is easier to showcase their brand and style through social media.
Oversized clothes, such as puffer jackets, have made a significant comeback in winter fashion, providing a clean and comfortable look. From chunky knit sweaters to cut coats, the emphasis on volume adds a touch of style and warmth to the winter collection. The oversized trend allows individuals to layer stylishly while maintaining a solid amount of comfort and warmth. Also, in 2023-2024, winter fashion turned back the clock with a resurgence of vintage-inspired pieces. Classic pieces from the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s were reimagined with a contemporary twist. Iconic patterns like plaid and hounds tooth made a strong comeback, giving winter wardrobes a nostalgic yet modern feel.
One of winter’s most prominent trends and the whole year was the big red boots. Influencers and artists such as Coi Leray and Iggy Azela gave into the shoes as they suddenly blew up out of nowhere due to their outrageous and cartoony looks. Social media as a whole had mixed opinions on the shoes, as would anything that would blow up out of seemingly nowhere.
Ms. McNeil (Teacher) says, “I love an assortment of jackets such as pea coats and trench coats. I also love arranging boots and big shoes this time of year.”
