On February 22, 2024, 22-year-old Laken Riley was doing her everyday thing as she was jogging around the UGA when around 9am, Jose Antonio L, a 26-year-old Venezuelan migrant, took the life of the young nursing student. When authorities discovered the body of the 22-year-old nursing student, she was beaten to death.
Authorities were on the hunt for the UGA suspect. The next day Jose Antonio Ibarra was found and arrested. when revealing that Jose is an immigrant that entered the U.S illegally which made many people outraged of a man entering the US and do terrible crimes in the country. Jose had several records which one of them was Jose being arrested and charged in NYC Jose was being inappropriate to a 17-year-old which later was released which made everyone mad about immigration here in the US and made everyone question if Joe Biden the president of the US is even doing the job right with the immigration crisis
James Basket (10) stated, It’s a tragedy that the girl was killed, and I’m sure it’s terrible for everyone.” James also said that it’s not about immigration: “To be honest, it’s not about immigration, it wasn’t even involved, but unless what were the issues between them and if they knew each other but immigration wasn’t involved.”. James said that he wouldn’t mind being on a college campus or being at home, but he prefers staying at home more, but Owen said that if it’s the college he attends is very good then yes, he would stay on campus. James felt that “People die every day, but we can’t do anything about it sadly.”
Owen Vargo (10) stated that what happened on February 22nd was terrible and horrible, and people who has that mindset of killing others should be locked up and never see light again. he doesn’t think immigration wasn’t involved and that probably a man who wanted to touch some kids but failed too so he killed someone instead, Owen also stated that he is planning to go to UGA but he prefers being at home and not attend in the campus, Owen said that the district should add more extra security, especially tragedies like what happened at UGA Feb 22.
Daruis Arauz (10) stated, “This should be fixed immediately.”. he doesn’t know if it was immigration, Daruis prefers going to college, they have the same problems multiple times, he also said that more extra security should be added, ‘if you have a gun and you are thinking of harming people, find the problem and get help” Daruis stated.
Riley hall, a student at wheeler high school agreed to be interviewed about the UGA murder, Riley thoughts about the murder was him saying that it was a tragedy and the suspect should be murder in cold blood as well, Railey also stated that probably immigration wasn’t even involved but he doesn’t know the whole story, but said it was probably not, Riley prefers being at home, he also said that it was a issues for a while especially cases of Laken Riley.
It’s a tragedy that a young girl with a future was killed in cold blood and affected so many people and concern many people from all colleges and people, people committing terrible crimes should be remember as the scum bags of the earth.
