Did you know Wheeler has its own MSF club? MSF (Médecins Sans Frontières), also known as Doctors Without Borders, provides emergency medical aid to communities impacted by natural disasters and conflicts. The organization was founded in 1971 by doctors and journalists who strived to create an organization based on medical ethics and impartiality. When a crisis occurs in a country, MSF is usually one of the first to arrive on the scene with doctors, nurses, and other frontline workers to provide the necessary medical care for those involved.
The MSF club focuses on bringing awareness to health issues and groups who may be affected by them. The club has several sub-committees in which students can be involved: Education, Volunteering, Social, Fundraising, and Publicity. These branches allow students to interact with their peers and communities to educate them about health and medicine.
The MSF president, Aaryan Indla (11) says, “This is MSF’s first full year at Wheeler, and we are dedicated to helping our community through fundraising events, volunteering events, and just making sure that our members are able to get a good grasp on health and understand more what they want to do in the future.”
Another member of the club, Cailyn Vasandani says that she joined “to be able to learn more about the medical field and have experience in it.” She likes doing MSF because she is “able to do something that connects with what I want to do as a career with school.”
Jayla Brown (10) says her favorite part of MSF is the volunteer opportunities, “I joined so I can learn more about medicine and have more volunteer hours.” Wheeler’s MSF is a great club to join if you aspire to be in the medical field and want to earn more volunteer hours and knowledge about healthcare.
