Mr. Ross has been working at Wheeler for two years, and in that time, he has done so much for us. He is the head coordinator of Open House, Shop with a Wildcat, International Night, Winterfest, Homecoming Parade, and more. However, his most important duties include being an ELA and ESOL teacher. Mr. Ross started his education at Kennesaw State University, then went to Berry College, and finally graduated from Augusta University. He is working on becoming an admin. He also has class pet lizards named Leo, Tank, and Houdini.
Students love him not just because he’s a great teacher but because he is someone you can trust and talk to. Eva Thayer (12) mentioned, “Coach Ross helped me get through the first semester. He helped me through my classwork and talked to me when I was stressed about graduation.” Eva was in his class in the first semester of 2024, and she was graduating that December. And Coach Ross helped.
His lovely wife (Ms. Ross) is also a geometry teacher here and teaches Geometry. I asked Ms. Ross how she got to work with her husband, and she responded, “My husband was interviewing at Etowah High and mentioned that I was also a teacher. Then, they contacted me for a position. Five years later, we were engaged, and there was an open position here at Wheeler. I got another position open, and my husband got the job!” Mr. Ross and Mrs. Ross have spent their whole married life working together.
His co-teacher, Ms. Jones, talked about how funny Coach Ross is and how he makes the kids interested in learning: “Coach Ross is a good lead teacher because he ensures you understand the lesson plan and listens to all my ideas. He also pushed me to get out of my shell.” Mr. Ross was her first lead teacher here at Wheeler High. They taught Multicultural Literature together, and they had a great connection.
