Shrek 5
Shrek was based on a children’s book in the 90s written by William Steig. Then, in 90, Steven Spielberg wanted to develop this book into a film at Dream Works to bring a different kind of animation into the film world. In 2001, the first Shrek was released, grossing over 484 million dollars worldwide. Winning the first Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. The movie was so groundbreaking that they decided to do three more after that. The Last Film (Shrek Forever After) came out in 2010, and everyone thought it would be the end of Shrek. But 15 years later, in 2025, they posted a teaser for Shrek 5.
With this announcement, Shrek 5 was announced to be coming out on Dec 23, 2026. Dream Works also dropped a teaser with Shrek, Fiona, a donkey, Poncho, and Shrek’s teenage daughter. There are some concerns about the movie because of the new animation and Shrek’s triples not being in the teaser. Fans say the animation is overly clean and nothing like the originals. Nicolle Corrie, 12th, said, “Shrek was my favorite movie growing up because it differed from the pretty and perfect Disney movies. How they ended the fourth movie was perfect. It was good. I don’t know why they are making a fifth one.” Some Fans are also asking why only one of Shrek’s kids is in the teaser. They are wondering where the other two kids are. Mackenzie Morris, 12th grade: “I watched the teaser, and I was surprised that only one of the kids was there, so I’m excited to see how they look.” On the bright side, this movie can be the best-animated movie in a long time. Let’s hope Hollywood doesn’t ruin another animated class to make things modern.
