Behind the scenes of The Catalyst, Edelina (10) is a constant positive presence, uplifting the entire Journalism class with her laidback personality and dedication to her work.
Edelina is in her second year of Journalism, having joined in freshman year. Mrs. Comstock, the Journalism teacher, does not except freshman into the intro Journalism class, but she made an exception for Edelina after seeing how “passionate she was about being part of the program.” According to Edelina, she had issues with her schedule, so her counselor gave her the choice of taking Audio-Visual Technology & Film I or Journalism I, and she chose the latter because of her love of writing. Her favorite part of Journalism is the interviewing process because she gets to “meet new people and learn about things [she’s] never heard of.”
Although the path she took to get here was unconventional, Edelina has quickly become what Mrs. Comstock describes as an “exceptional student who impressed [her] from the outset of class.” She has made many friends in Journalism, including Evern (12), who called her a “super sweet, easy-going person” who is “easy to get along with and become friends with.” Evern’s favorite thing about Edelina is that it’s “really easy to have a conversation with her,” which was a breath of fresh air for her after years of struggling to make conversation with other students.
Edelina has a “glowing personality,” according to Mrs. Comstock, and she is always willing to “write engaging pieces” and was quick to take on the responsibility of managing editor. She is dedicated to “her craft of writing,” and reading her pieces is something that the whole team behind The Catalyst looks forward to.
When she’s not working on her pieces for The Catalyst, Edelina enjoys reading and watching Asian movies. After high school, she plans on going to college to pursue law.
