Calling all iPhone Users

The iPhone 8 will be Apple’s newest iPhone, and many drastic changes and impressive features are expected for this highly anticipated iPhone. 2017 marks the 10th anniversary of the iPhone, and Apple is planning to completely redesign their iPhone with new qualities that have never been imposed on a phone before. The release date of the iPhone 8 is still unknown, but many are expecting it to launch in September 2017, as Apple typically launches their iPhone products around September each year. However, this launch date may change, due to the complete remodeling of the phone, which may cause some delays.

Apple’s iPhone 8 is expected to have many new benefits and include fascinating new features. There is going to be a radical redesign, such as an edge-to-edge display that covers the entire phone, and Apple is expecting to have an all glass body construction of the phone, moving away from the previous aluminum back covers. Not only this, but it is expected to have completely new front features, such as a dual front camera and no touch ID, which will either be built into the display or removed completely, being replaced by a possible face recognition technology, which is still being worked on. On the back of the phone, rumors suggest that there will be a vertical dual camera for more pristine pictures and improved AR functionality. The display is suggested to be a flexible OLED (organic light emitting diode) instead of the previous LCD, which will enable Apple to create a much thinner device that conserves power with a much  better display. In addition, rumors say this phone may be massive, with a 5.8” display, the biggest any iPhone has ever had. Another exciting rumor states that the iPhone 8 will feature an induction-based wireless charging and water-resistancy.

Although the iPhone 8 speculates to have impressing improvements from the iPhone 7, there could potentially be a couple of downsides to this new phone. Rumors have expressed that there could be supply restraints due to the introduction of the possible OLED display. Unfortunately, most of the customers may not be able to get their hands on the iPhone 8 till 2018, even with an early launch date. Also, the price may be quite expensive, possibly reaching $1200. Another feature that a portion of the customers may not completely like, is the loss of the home button and Touch ID. If the face recognition technology is confirmed, some people may dislike having to put their phone up to their face just to unlock it, which could prove to be inconvenient at times.

At Wheeler, some students were asked about how they feel about the rumors and features of the new iPhone 8 and whether or not they’d be willing to purchase the phone. Shelly Chummar explained, “I’m really excited for the phone to include dual front and rear cameras, which will take such good pictures. I’m not too sure i would like not having a home button and face recognition to unlock my phone.” Michelle Nader stated, “I would definitely buy the new iPhone, it seems like it’ll be really cool and exciting. I love the features and can’t wait for it to come out. Another student, Brian Yapkowitz said, “ The new iPhone seems like it’s going to be awesome. I honestly think the features are really cool, but not sure if I would like the whole glass body of the phone.” In conclusion, many of the Wheeler students are anticipating and really looking forward to the new phone, as well as many people all across the world.
