Gun Control
There are gun enthusiast, and there are anti-gun people. Both have a lot to say about each other whether if it’s about protection from guns or that guns are for protection. There are also discussions considering how safe it is going out to the store or even going for a nice walk early in the morning. Speculations about police brutality have risen throughout the years especially with what technology can do for us. The event has brought up fear towards police enforcement, and more people seem to need less persuading to needing to protect themselves with guns. Topics like these have led to how safe it is even to let someone own a gun anymore and what is to happen to gun control in the US. In the year 2017 alone, the US has witnessed more than three random shootings that have led to a nationwide manhunt. Friends and families have seen bloodshed that no one should deserve to see. Not long ago, a man by the name of Stephen Paddock randomly rained bullets on innocents during a concert in Las Vegas killing over 50 people and injuring more than 500. This random act of violence is now considered America’s deadliest mass shooting in history. It’s actions like these convincing civilians to require gun control to only professionals like police departments being able to carry a weapon. Another prime example is when Steve Stephens from Ohio violently shot an elderly passing by and posted the horrendous killing on Facebook Live. This led to a nationwide manhunt with Stephens adding more than a dozen people to his hit list. Many scarred with what witnessed and the thought of gun control seems like less crazy ideas for ordinary people that want to live a long healthy life just like others.Gun enthusiast have realized that more random acts of violence have been occurring and that people tend to be afraid of such weapons that are there to protect us. Although, some suggest making requirements more strict rather than taking away one of their beloved amendments. Although getting a gun license is not as easy as some think, others suggest that the government has made it lenient in some states to obtain one. Examples of requirements in the state of Georgia are some follows, must be 21 years of age, be a resident of the state six months after putting in an application, has not been convicted of a felony, and many others. Though, they do not require any test as to how a person’s mental stability is. A significant concern realizes that many can pass all the requirements, but, it all comes down to a
person’s psychological health as it contributes when it comes to random shootings. Guns have been around for as long as anyone could remember, just as the selling of illegal weapons has been. In today’s era, it has gotten easier to buy guns off the market that there have been fourteen-year-old teens with criminal records that include the intent of robbery, possession of a firearm, and even being accused of murder. In the case of 16-year old Luis Cosgaya-Alvarez, he did not also have to go out of the city to buy one of the streets. Police confirmed that Alvarez purchased the illegal gun from an unlicensed dealer and not more than two weeks passed when the cops detained Alvarez for murder. A friend could know another friend that has connections to guns and all a teen has to do is send a text and could get a gun the next day. Accidents such as children shooting themselves due to the irresponsibility and not being cautious of parents have also been part of gun control. Many have regretted purchasing a gun due to acts like these and have switched sides without thought. Although some are anti- gun, many are still fighting for their rights and will not go without a fight. As the 2nd amendment states, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” Many believe that guns are a necessity and a privileged to survive and feel protected. They think that everybody should know how to properly use a gun and know the proper etiquette of handling a weapon whether knowing where the safety is to how to hold one not to hurt yourself while using it. Gun enthusiasts like to consider a firearm as a part of them as they have full control and know how to handle the weapon. Whether someone is pro gun or anti gun, there are many reasons to both sides which are correct, and as more scenarios tend to happen, gun control will always be a controversial topic.
