A Wildcat’s Winter

As the freezing winds and school closings approach, one may be wondering what exactly there is to do in the winter. With snow or without snow, there are many exciting festivities and activities the winter weather brings. As the temperature drops, many ice skating rinks open their doors to crowds of customers waiting to skate and show off their tricks. Ice skating is especially fun with friends and family, and it is a blast for people of all ages. Also, as the holiday spirit gets closer, many different neighborhoods and universities decorate their areas with lights. One specific display of lights at Life University is among the most popular in Georgia. This university adorns its campus with Christmas trees, menorahs, and native scenes for all to see. Another winter favorite is simply baking cookies gathered around family and getting cozy by the fire at home. No matter where you are, there is always something fun to do when winter strikes.
As much as there is to do during wintertime, many families choose to stay warm inside their homes. At home, you can watch movies, make hot chocolate, but most importantly, eat! There are so many dishes to make during winter that help families gather around and feast. One meal that is among the most popular is sweet potatoes and roast chicken. Sweet potatoes are a favorite during the wintertime, as they show up in a lot of festive meals. Around the winter time is also when many different cultures host gatherings and cook their special meals. Fianko Buckle, a senior at Wheeler who is from Ghana, stated, “My favorite food to eat during the winter is Ghana Jollof. Everyone seems much happier, and when you walk into stores, they smell like cinnamon and have happy songs playing.” Arul Gupta, a senior, stated, “Winter just means school is halfway done, and that’s what I love about it!” There are many positives about winter, and the Wheeler Wildcats love it for many different reasons.
