Fashion Review: Met Gala

The Met Gala is the fashion event that is equal to the oscars. It’s a night when designers, models, and Hollywood stars dress in the most outrageous looks to celebrate and fundraise for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. It occurs every year to mark the opening of the Costume Institute’s Annual Fashion exhibit. This year’s theme was all about honoring American fashion, and how it has developed and progressed throughout the centuries. The Met Gala also has a number of co-chairs to help host the event; this year they included Timothée Chalamet, Billie Eilish, Amanda Gorman, and Naomi Osaka. Many influencers arrived at the Met Gala in their best dresses and suits; some of which had a theme dating back to the 1900s! One of the fan favorite looks included Kendall Jenner in her crystal Givenchy dress that paid tribute to Aubrey Hepburn. Many also liked Billie Eilish and her brilliant ball gown inspired by Marilyn Monroe. Furthermore, for Covid safety procedures, all guests had to show proof of full vaccination, have a negative rapid PCR test, and they were required to wear face coverings indoors unless eating or drinking. Overall, even with the hover of Covid, the 2021 Met Gala was a great success, and could possibly be a foreshadow for the rest of 2021 and the beginning of 2022.
