Football is the heart of a school; it arouses plenty of school spirit, bringing smiles to everyone’s faces. Students, teachers, and other school members will never forget their experience when going to a football game, especially at Wheeler High School. It brings people together and allows for fun times, hanging with friends and families, and even getting to know new people. Even when it’s cold, people gather to watch a football game outside. Of course, some people question why, but the answer that will most likely occur for most is to enjoy the energy and school spirit.
The Wildcats have played in numerous games this season and won many. They beat South Cobb High School with a score of 28-3, North Atlanta High School: 23-20, Campbell High School: 28-17, Cherokee High School 36-21, and plenty more. They have also had some tough losses, but it only brought them together as a team to continue to move on together and accomplish their goals. These wildcats have the support of the entire school. People look forward to watching them succeed in the future and continue pursuing their life goals. Some seniors are saying goodbye once the season is over, but those that remain will continue to work hard throughout the years to keep the school spirit alive.
School spirit is essential at football games, whether from the crowd, the cheerleaders, or the team itself. People will always enjoy a game regardless of if the team wins or loses as long as there is some form of positive spirit present. An example of a night that the school spirit reached its peak was the homecoming game against Osborne High School. The game had people on the edge of their seats, wondering who would win. The cheers, the laughter, and the smiles that were shared brought the school together. It increased the players’ adrenaline, allowing the team to win with a score of 21-14.

During an interview with the junior linebacker, Gregory Banks, when asked what the teams’ best game was, he answered, “North Atlanta, because everything was just clicking, you know, that was the game where everyone just played they best, everybody was flying to the ball, the whole team was engaged, you know everyone just showed up, and showed out.”
The football teams’ positive spirit influenced how they played on the field and supported each other, reflecting the outcome by the time the game was over.
The Wheeler football team exemplifies perseverance, determination, and patience. They have remained humble, nevertheless, with both their wins and losses because their losses are moments of learning and reflection; this has allowed them to make it to the playoffs. They are now preparing for the playoffs and continue to work hard throughout every practice intending to reach new heights and accomplishments.
