Movies have entirely changed the way we entertain ourselves. This electronic entertainment form has made people accustomed to the cinematic experience. With this revolutionary form of media, all different types of films have emerged over the years. As the motion picture industry grew, so did the need to award the most outstanding films. The 95th Oscars hosted by Jimmy Kimmel is March 12, 2023, at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. From the looks of it, Rihanna and Lady Gaga are also set to perform. In the 2023 Oscars, there are 23 names ranging from best actor/actress to best special effects. This year looks like a competitive year where it’s anyone’s game to take the crown.

Best Leading Actress: The Scotsman

The 2023 Oscars are looking exciting. The best actress category includes Cate Blanchett TÁR, Michelle Yeoh’s Everything Everywhere All at Once, Michelle Williams’s The Fabelmans, Ana de Armas Blonde, Andrea Riseborough To Leslie. These nominations might have quite a buzz Sreeja Sappati (12) shares her thoughts on best actress nominations: “I think Michele Yeoh deserved the Oscar since she portrayed her role well in the movie. I love the idea that she worked hard in this industry and represented the Asian community well.” Another person who liked one of the norms was Abby Shay (12). I asked her what she thought of the norms. “It was amazing, and I would give anything to see it again for the first time. It had three separate emotional climaxes, and I cried at all three. Michelle Yeoh is a wonderful actress, and she deserves every single award she gets and more. Nominate her 12 more times. I love her so much.” As you can see, Michelle Yeoh has a lot of people moved by her performance and rooting for her to win this Oscar.

A very well-known Oscar category is the Actor in a leading role category. The nominations are Austin Butler’s Elvis, Colin Farrel’s The Banshees of Insherin, Brendan Fraser’s The Whale, Paul Mescal Aftersun, and Bill Nighy Living. Ana Rocha (12) seemed enthusiastic about a particular Oscar nomination. “I think Austin Butler will get the best Actor because his performance was moving. I truly felt like that was his character.” Certain Actors sure have people picking favorites.

This year in film was full of unique and influential movies. In the academy’s opinion, they have recognized 10 of those in which the category is dubbed Best Picture: All Quiet on the Western Front, Avatar: The way of the water, The Banshees of Inisherin, Elvis, Everything Everywhere All At Once, The Fablemans, TÁR, Top Gun Maverick, Triangle of Sadness, Woman Talking. All of these are debatable great movies and must-watch. Annika Mehta (12) shared her views about the best picture nominations: “I think everywhere I have everything all at once is the best movie because it includes a lot of diversity and a deep topic that is not seen in a film. Also, it was produced by a 24, a super cool movie production.” The Oscars this year have great films nominated, and people sure feel the same way.

The best picture films struck a chord with certain people. Another nomination that some people took a likening to was Visual Effects. When Maryam Aamir (12) was asked what she thought of Best Visual Effect nominations, “Honestly, all those movies had amazing special effects. Avatar, as always, HAS CRAZY CGI. Black Panther is an excellent contender too. Batman also had nice special effects, but not as good as the other two. Top Gun was a good movie, but the others were better.” All these fantastic films and actors/actresses are up for nominations, and one thing is for sure this year’s Oscars have people paying attention to them.
