The Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California, hosted the 65th Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday, February 5th. Over 91 distinct categories brought about the most nominations for artists like Beyonce and Kendrick Lamar. American singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile, who received an astounding seven nominations this year, is among the top four most nominated artists at the Grammy Awards (along with Adele). “She is a really fun person and an advocate. Her music is good too,” reported Hannah Daskal (12), a frequent Carlile listener. Carlile took home three new Grammy trophies for Best Americana Album, Best Rock Performance, and Best Rock Album during the Premiere Ceremony of the Grammys. Carlile lost in two major categories including Album of the Year and Record of the Year, where her most recent album In These Silent Days and her single “You and Me on the Rock” were nominated. “I think she deserves the awards. Her singing/talent is what got her famous and she worked very hard on it. I think some of her losses were meant to be wins but it’s alright to lose.” reported Carly Ford-Stickney (11), an avid fan of Carlile. However, the Washington singer is now the recipient of nine Grammy awards total, ranking her as the 76th most-awarded artist at the American Grammys. After being introduced by her wife Catherine Shepherd and their two daughters, Carlile gave an electrifying performance of her single “Broken Horses” with her backing band, the Hanseroth twins. The only accompaniment to her performance was strobe lights, which allowed her voice to stand out the most, demonstrating her vocal range and skill. “I liked her stage presence and you could tell she was deep into her lyrics, and her voice, HELLO? The emotion, everything was great.” reported Carla Sola (12), a Carlile fan who recently got into her music. Her performance even received a standing ovation from superstar Taylor Swift, while the rest of the crowd roared with applause.

Carlile later shared her appreciation for Swift’s ovation on her Instagram story, tagging her with a praise emoji to signify her gratitude. “I think it’d be interesting for the two to actually interact with each other. I think Taylor and Brandi could actually learn a lot about each other.” said Mallorie Mccullough, who newly discovered Carlile’s music.
