The story of a cocaine-eating black bear has people excited this February. A new movie with an all-star cast, including Ray Liotta, O’Shea Jackson, Jr, and Keri Russel, is coming out on February 24th, 2023, in theaters worldwide. Cocaine Bear is loosely based on a true story of a Georgian black bear that ingested cocaine dropped from a drug smuggler’s airplane. The now taxidermied bear stays in a Kentucky mall where he has been given the name “Pablo EskoBear.” Unlike Pablo’s true story, however, the movie puts on a violent twist as Cocaine Bear goes on a violent rampage leaving an unlikely group of individuals to stop it in a Georgia forest. Every day the hype for “Cocaine Bear” grows stronger as the release day grows closer.
When asked if excited for the release of Cocaine Bear, Oliver Winch (10) replied, “Somewhat, totally forgot but the name sounds incredible.” Zach Rivers (10) stated that he would, “Sell a kidney for a ticket.”
Students were also asked what they would do if faced with a bear high on cocaine; Evan Loftin (10) said he would lie on the ground and accept his fate, Brion Grimes (11) said that he would, “Stop drop and roll.” Other responses ranged from praying for help all the way to a thumb wrestling match against the massive bear.
