Girls Soccer Finishes Off a Great Season
The Girls Soccer team swept in and finished off their season 5th in the region. They had 16 games this season, eight of them being region games. They brought home four region wins against South Cobb, Sprayberry, Osbourne, and Kell. Many players reported that this year their goal was to work their hardest and make it to the playoffs. But after playing hard in a final determining game against Kennesaw Mountain, they went into overtime and lost. They put up an amazing fight and had an overall great game. Haden Drake (11) played on the varsity team for the past three seasons: “We were sad that we didn’t get to go to the playoffs this year. But I really want to work hard and make it next year for my last season as a senior.” Maddie Zimmerman (11) and Avery Halseth (11) agreed and are looking forward to working hard with their team again next season. This year’s success could be attributed to their great teamwork and players and their amazing leadership. They were led by Coach Jeanne Blair and Coach Kelechukwu Nwosu (aka Coach K), as well as team captains Caroline Hugh (12) and Raya Offentier (12). Many underclassmen teammates reported that the captains did a great job at leading at practices and games. All of the seniors will be greatly missed next year. Congratulations, girls soccer, on an amazing season, all of Wheeler can’t wait to see what future seasons hold.
