Wheeler Wrestling
The Wheeler Wildcat Wrestling team recently began their season for the 2021-2022 year at the end of October, excited for what this new season will bring after the covid year. Last week, they held tryouts for the varsity team, which anticipated which wrestlers would compete for the junior varsity or varsity based on their strength and other abilities. With the sport involving lots of physical contact with opponents and mental stability, the wrestlers were able to test their best by going against their teammates.
The Wildcats, both the girls and boys team, have already made impressive accomplishments as they initiate the season: they brought home a trophy from the Jaguar Duals last weekend! Winning third place, they came back to Wheeler bragging about their dubs for their first meet. They’re set to win more and reach personal achievements in their next upcoming matches. Their next meet is at New Manchester on November 19th, where they’ll be competing against other schools.
The team anticipates that they’ll set and break records this year, as wrestler Zyan Hall believes he’s on track to become a state champion. “This season, I’m looking forward to getting better as a team and individually,” he says, with an optimistic perspective about his career as a student-athlete. With the positive outlook, the Wheeler Wildcat Wrestling team can see themselves contributing to Wheeler’s outstanding athletic achievements.
